ART WEEK 2006

In the 4th week of this term we had art week. Not just room 6 but the whole Thorndon school. There were lots of options and we selected our top 3 choices but some of us never got put into our top 3. Through out that week we split up into our art groups. Everyone enjoyed art week. There was Oamaru stone, print making, clay fish tiles, painting on canvas and many more. Some of these options have never been on offer before. We only get art week once in the whole year so we have to make the most of it, away from maths, reading and writing and the whole lot of other school work. For once we get the whole day away from class to do art apart from when we returned back to class at 2:30.
These are some of the projects we made:

Term 4

Welcome back from the holidays. We have all enjoyed a couple of weeks off school and are straight back into it for the last term of this year. There are heaps of exciting things happening this term, such as:
  • Art Week in week 4
  • swimming starts after Labour Weekend
  • Thorndon Fair on the 3rd December
  • the Speech competition in week 5
  • the Year 8 Leavers dinner
  • and much more...

Our inquiry unit this term is "Parihaka and the Peace Movement" which is going to be a fantastic opportunity to learn about New Zealand history. We have also started the Speech Making unit. Watch this space for more on these topics.

If you would like to do some extra work at home on maths, here is a great link to a webpage with lots of activities which tie in with the Numeracy Project we are doing at school: http://www.nzmaths.co.nz/families/Activities.aspx

This term we are learning about Global Warming. We have done a research assignment on one of the following topics: Greenhouse gases, Kyoto Protocl, emissions, carbon cycle or carbon sinks. We have had guest speakers talking to us about their involvement in this field and we are going to do an energy audit in our homes to see what we can do to help save the planet. If you would like to learn more about Global Warming check out these links
